Publishing Feature Service

This section will teach you how to publish feature service with SuperGIS Server step-by-step. Feature service is one kind of GIS service that SuperGIS Server provides. It allows online editing feature, belonging to the advanced map service. Before publishing the feature service, you need to publish one usable map service first, and then set it as the advanced feature service.

Feature service only allows front end users to edit the vector features which are set as editable; as to those vector features set as in-editable or raster imagery, they can be navigated only. Through the mechanism that controls the feature's edition in SuperGIS Feature Service, multiple users can online edit features in the supported front end application at once, such as editing attribute, modifying geometry, removing and adding features.

Before publishing feature services, please make your map data into SGD project file in SuperGIS Desktop and then locate the map data and SGD project file to the machine that SuperGIS Server can access. At last, start to publish the feature service.

Publish feature service:

1.First of all, publish the map project you built as map service. Please refer to chapter “Publishing Map Service” for detailed workflow. Please note that a feature service can only contain vector layers in the project, since the raster layer is not editable.

2.Select the published map service in the “Published Services” area, and click “Config” below to configure the map service.

3.Click ”Editing” in the setting page and check “Feature Service” in the right side, and then set the layers contained in the editable service by checking in Editable Layers in the right side. The checked layers are editable, while those not checked are not able to edit. Please notice that a new field recording GID attribute data will be added into the attribute table of the layer to record each feature number and facilitate editing on SuperGIS Server after you set the layer editable.

4.Click "OK" when you complete the settings and the Feature Service is published.

Note: Feature Service allows front-end users to online edit the layers contained in the service through the front-end application that supports, such as SuperGIS Desktop or SuperPad. Feature Service is the advanced service that is published based on the Map Service, so they both use the identical map data. In other word, editing Feature Service data can be considered as editing Map Service data.
