Trim Tool

 

 

“Trim Tool” has similar logic with the edit tool extend, now please see the figure below and follow the description. The line in the figure is the one which will be applied with “Trim Tool”; the “green points” on the line represent the “intersections” that are formed by the selected line or polygon feature with the line. The line will be divided into three segments based on the intersections. Several results might occur in accordance with where the Trim Tool clicks:  

 

 

1.If the tool clicks on the first or third segment, the first or third segment will be trimmed accordingly.

 

 

 

2. the tool clicks on the second segment, because the position is right between the two intersections, the system will find out the mid-point of the line, which is the red point on the map. Then, the system will find which segment the position the tool clicks is close to. If the position is closer to the first segment, the second and third segment will be trimmed; if the position is closer to the third segment, the first and second segment will be trimmed. In other words, the tool will trim the segment on which it is clicked as well as all those segments which are farther from the position where the tool is clicked.

 

 

 

3.The tool will be functionless if no intersection is formed.

 

 

4.If the position where you click is the intersection or mid-point, the segment to be trimmed will be decided by program.
