Location Allocation
Location Allocation solves the related problems about the planning and configuration of facility site. Good site locations for facilities can always bring in the stable business and more commercial opportunities. Or some of the various problems can be solved in even short time. For instance, in an area, how do we decide the site locations for multiple convenience stores to get the highest benefits, just like locating the convenience store at where can spend the lowest cost and get the stable and great number of customers or how to arrange the location of fire departments to let the fire trucks arrive the fire site to extinguish the fire in shortest time. All the problems mentioned above can be solved by Location Allocation.
In Location Allocation, Network Analyst offers three problem types, Minimize Impedance,Minimize facilities.
Minimize Impedance finds the combination of facility and demand with the minimum cost. The cost possibly includes various cost parameters, in this case, it refers the sum of weighted cost. Now the available cost parameters include time and distance, and you can choose the cost according to the need. For instance, you can find out the closest steak house or the one which can be reached quickest. The required solution can be found by setting different cost.
Maximize coverage aims to find a location for facility where the facility can reach all demands in a significant period of time. For instance, when a car accident occurs, the policemen and ambulance must reach the site of accident in a significant period of time to effectively and rapidly handle it, like clearing away the obstacle on road or rescuing the wounded. The maximize coverage often is employed to find out facilities like police station, hospital, fire department or so.
Minimize facilities is used to create minimum number of facilities serving demands as many as possible within limited budgets. Generally, people prefer accessible facilities; therefore, reducing toll/time of shifting among facilities and demands will enhance the utilization of each facility. Minimize facilities enables users to choose toll/time as the cost parameter depending on different circumstances. In this way, the minimize facility can be applied to plan locations of non-emergent facilities such as station, library and park.
