Spatial Arrangement Supporting System

Scenario

As the organization for improving National Geographic Information System (NGIS) in Taiwan, National Development Council is in charge of processing the core and essential geographic data and improving the promotion of NGIS through implementing comprehensive data-integration tasks like data building, data maintenance, data sharing and supply, value-added application and so forth.

Moreover, National Development Council also built spatial analysis system to assist each division in assessing significant national development projects. Through functions within GIS, task commissioners can obtain helpful references to boost assessment efficiency by querying and analyzing relevant data.

Challenge

To employ relevant geographic services and data provided by each division in Taiwan, National Development Council has to take various dimensions such as data format, coordinate system, map service, software edition, etc, into consideration. Thus, National Development Council builds Spatial Arrangement Supporting System, which supports standard formats, including comprehensive data formats, coordinate systems, map services and so forth for users in each division to develop and apply diverse analyses for system services.

Goals

Taking advantages of spatial data displaying and analyzing on GIS, Spatial Arrangement Supporting System supports to query, analyze and display relevant data of each public infrastructure to improve instantaneity and consultative value of data of task management by employing public infrastructure-related data that are collected, adopted and built by each division.

For example, diverse references including urban planning maps, topographic maps, aerial photographs, data in social economic database and environmental database, etc, are integrated inside the system. Through spatial relation, these references are employed to expensively analyze and evaluate factors like service efficiency of public infrastructure projects, budget, and environmental influences and so on. And the analyzing results will be performed as data on map for facilitating project assessment.

Solutions

Developed with SuperGIS Server as the core foundation, the Spatial Arrangement Supporting System comes equipped with various functions including spatial data processing, analyzing, displaying and editing. In addition, to enhance task management and decision usage, the spatial analysis system also integrates with SuperGIS Server Network Extension to provide network analysis functions.

Moreover, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is adopted for database management service. Through the geodatabase, spatial data processing and displaying services provided by the Spatial Arrangement Supporting System can be enhanced, and the utility and performance of the system are improved as well.

Results

1. The spatial data and services collected and built by each division can be integrated in the single platform to provide spatial analyses and map display.

2. Spatial Arrangement Supporting System enables users to query diverse attribute data. In addition, the system can show query results on map. In this way, task administrators are able to tell geographic position of each project with ease.

3. With Spatial Arrangement Supporting System, users can set query buffer and upload data online according to their requirements. And Analysis Model in the system provides diverse analytics for analyzing data within the specified buffer. Besides, the analyzing results can be exported as graphics, too.
