The Applications of Geostatistics

The development of geostatistics is maturing, and the geostatistics has been applied in many domains, including soil science, hydrology, geology, zoology, agriculture, ecology, forestry, computer science, mechanical engineering, medicine, environmental engineering and management, etc.

The geostatistical analysis methods are also applied commonly in different fields. However, there are only very little number of applied software integrating GIS in data analysis.

The locally developed spatial analysis GIS combines SuperGIS Spatial Statistical Analyst and GIS to provide users of different domains an easy-use and more powerful tool in spatial analysis. It has been successfully applied in environmental engineering and tourism.

In environmental engineering, the main applications are in underground water quality monitoring. Through the estimation and analysis functions of SuperGIS Spatial Statistical Analyst, the estimates of unsampled points in a research area could be found simply, accurately, and efficiently from the limited well samples. It can lower the difficulties and trouble of tremendous field investigations, can back the evaluation basis of conducting comprehensive research on water quality in this research area, and can improve the time efficiency of water monitoring.

In tourism, currently it is applied in scenic spot planning for ecotourism and tourist influence over the ecology. Through filed investigations on sampled animals, plants, and insects in a limited location, we can understand the ecological distribution and migration in that research area and then further understand the essential influences of human activities on the ecology in that area. Consequently, we can provide policy makers and managers better and full-facet bases for evaluation and policymaking, improving improper design and planning and sustaining our ecology and environments.
